Area 11 - The Life Of A Ghost -Official Lyric Video-

The Life of a Ghost is the 8th song on the album Modern Synthesis. It was written primarily by Leo.

During several parts of the song, a feminine synthesized voice can be faintly heard singing alongside Sparkles*. When wearing headphones, this is most clearly heard through the right speaker. The voice is either intentional, likely Cassandra, or potentially just an unintentional side effect of some of the audio processing. The lyrics where this occurs are in bold below.

A pitch-isolated version of the song makes it easier to hear this voice.

Lyrics

Travel by main highway light
To see the rolling landscape fly
Journey downward from a height
Slow shadows grow and weave the night

Living the life of a ghost
There is no comfort for the mind
Bodies twisting in the soil
Some sights we've tried to leave behind

Always looking backwards down the road
Still I claim "I will retain composure"

Lost in thoughts of where I am
Crown and trench, this day is done

Plan mislaid, so what to do?
Wherever the winds would take me
Pulled by tide, adrift along the lines
Stay 'til dawn, begin anew?
With all honesty I want to be selfless
To be human, but I'm beat and I'm worn-through

Now I'm lost in thoughts of where I am
Crown and trench, this day is done

Lost in thought
I'm lost tonight
I'm at an ember, will you take my story?
Pull back the curtain
And walk towards the truth

Living the life of a ghost
There is no comfort for the mind

Lost in thoughts of where I am (where I am, where I am)
Crown and trench, this day is done (done, day is done, done)
Lost in thoughts of where I am

Trivia

  • The song began as an acoustic song by Leo (as such, the intro bears a resemblance to 'Blinking Lights', a solo song by Leo).
  • It was inspired by 'Saviour', by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
  • Leo was reading 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac at the time of writing it.
  • The lyrics reflect their situation at the time of writing- alone in a holiday complex in Italy, with no English speakers nearby.
  • Sparkles* wished to make the song sound more like Deftones.
  • The lyrics changed somewhat, but were more or less retained in a recognizable form. They were edited by both Sparkles* and Kogie.
