Blackline is the first EP created by Area 11. It contains the three of the first songs ever written and performed by Area 11 as a group, two of which were later reworked and included in All The Lights In The Sky (Euphemia and Heaven-Piercing Giga Drill).

On the Area 11 Twitter the complete version of Blackline was described as a prologue.

"The prologue has finished, now it's time for the real story to begin." (23rd Jan),

. On the same day Sparkles* tweeted

"Thank you to eveyone who's ever bought Blackline. It's been a ride! Now, for the real music..." (23rd Jan)

Physical CD Release

There were 150 hard copies of Blackline printed, of which 111 were numbered and put for sale to the public via Area 11's Bandcamp and the Zero Tour, the remaining 39 however were all marked under the number zero (nicknamed the zero edition) for promotional usage such as for reviews, these were all but regarded to have been discarded or thrown away.

Physical CD Artwork

The box-art for the physical copy of Blackline was designed by Whiteroom Media. Concept art on their portfolio page shows that the girl on the cover was inspired by Yoko fron Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and that the work itself is licensed to 'Giga Productions'.

The Draft Theory

In business and legal circles, a blackline is a comparison between original documents and revised documents. This means that it is an intermediary document that records changes between the other documents. This raises the idea that Blackline is a draft copy of All The Lights In The Sky, or it could feature the songs that have changed or like Sannin removed between being written and being recorded for ATLITS.

Other Theories

It is unknown what significance the name for the third movement of the Bōsōzoku Symphonic, Redline has, especially in relation to Blackline. It might simply be named after the anime movie (which Sparkles* once reviewed on area-11.co.uk).

It is worth noting that (among other suspicious tracks such as: Lilium (Intro), What Vicious Is, Human is Dead; Mismatch, and Homunculus) a track called "Redline" was scrobbled to Sparkles*' Last.FM account 14 times starting from 17 Sep 2011. However this could just be a draft or demo of Movement 3 - Redline.

Now with Underline, the line theory takes on a new significance.
